Recent changes to the Shippan Point Association By-laws provide that officers of the Association are elected in January of each year. Members of the Board, the Directors, are elected by the general membership at the Annual Meeting which is held during May each year. The Annual Meeting is usually held at Stamford Yacht Club and features a guest speaker. Past speakers have included Eric Knott, Harbor Master (2016); Wes Haynes, Executive Director, Historic Neighborhood Preservation Program (2015); Mayor David Martin (2014); City of Stamford Police Chief Jon Fontneau (2013); Captain Mathew Palmer, City of Stamford Fire Department (2012); and Bobby Valentine (2011).

Sarah Black and her husband Alex moved to Shippan from London in 2003. Sarah is the mother of four busy pre-teen and teen children and has been actively involved in her children’s schools, the OLSS parish and other community volunteer activities. She and her family have enjoyed the community events planned by the SPA and Sarah looks forward to helping plan some of the future activities.
Thomas Mark Brennan, Sr., his wife Kathrine and son Tucker moved to Shippan Point from San Diego in September 2013, just before the birth of their son Jack. Thomas is a licensed architect who works in real estate development. Thomas is an avid long distance runner and logs many miles on the streets of Shippan Point and beyond. With two young children, Thomas has a sincere interest in the SPA for a host of reasons focusing on the health, safety and welfare of all Shippan residents, but with an eye towards general safety and security and community building through social events.
Ted Fine has lived in Shippan since 2003 with his wife, Michelle, and three children, Noah, Lily, and Piper. He works at Bloomberg Television, after many years with CNN in New York in Atlanta, and local television news in Denver and Boston. Ted is a graduate of Boston University and fan of the Red Sox and Bruins. He served on the vestry at St. Paul’s Church Riverside and coached his children’s hockey, soccer and baseball teams.
Shelley Gibson and her husband moved to Shippan in July of 2014 after spending a few years residing in London, UK. The Gibsons were fortunate to have a friend who introduced them to Shippan. Since relocating to Shippan they have participated in several SPA events and have become members of the Shippan Gourmet Club.
Saira Hopper and her husband, Louis, both originally from Montreal, Canada and have been Shippan residents since 2008. They love the neighborhood for the idyllic childhood their two sons, Aaron and Luke, get to experience here. Saira is an avid traveller, member of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and Co-President of the Lower School Parents’ Association at Greens Farms Academy. Saira has helped organize the Stamford Avenue Block Party, Stamford Avenue Easter Egg Hunt and Annual Shippan Point Halloween Parade. She looks forward to bringing her ideas to the SPA.
Samantha Lavy and her husband Gad Lavy have lived in Shippan since 2010. Samantha grew up in Shippan, and her mother and sister still live in the neighborhood. She has a teenage daughter, Victoria Crowe, who attends King School. Samantha serves as CEO of New England Fertility Institute and is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree at NYU in the area of Social Work. Both Gad and Samantha are members of the Shippan Yacht Club, and are Chairs of the Shippan Gourmet Club. They enjoy summers on Long Island Sound, travel, exercise, and spending time with family.
Jill Luciani and her family, husband Tom Bouchard and children Alison and Nate moved to Shippan from Boston in 2006. They chose Shippan over other areas in Fairfield County because of its neighborly atmosphere and natural beauty. They are members of the Stamford Yacht Club and Our Lady Star of the Sea Parish. Jill is the Senior Director of Marketing for Hair Fashion Appliances at Conair Corporation in Stamford.
Laura O’Brien grew up in New Jersey, but has been a Stamford resident for over 16 years. She moved to Shippan in 2010 and loves every minute of it. Laura is a chef, having graduated from the Culinary Institute of America. She is the Chef, Pastry Chef and General Manager of The Stamford Diner (formerly City Limits Diner). Laura doesn’t have any human kids, but does have furry ones. She’s a big animal lover and activist volunteering in a number of ways, including Friends of Felines.
Raj Patel and his wife Elisabeth Hershman moved to Shippan in 2012 after living in the Harbor Point section of Stamford. They have two young children, Alexander, who attends Rogers International School, and Caroline. Raj has worked in the financial services and technology fields and is currently a sales engineer at the data security software firm Varonis. In his spare time, Raj likes to day trade and golf whenever he gets the chance. He currently serves as an ALC board member and spearheaded a Family Games Day that was a big success.
Lyda Ruijter from Harbor House has been a resident of Shippan for the 8 years. Educated as a sociologist in the Netherlands, and as a linguist in the US, Lyda worked in academia in the Mid-West before settling on the East Coast. Lyda was on the Board of Directors of the Harbor House for 4 years and has volunteered on behalf of cultural, environmental, political and neighborhood issues for the last 8 years. Lyda has also served as Commissioner for Parks and Recreation in Stamford.
